Tobacco consumption among students on rise

Sale and consumption of tobacco and related products is on the rise in the state, posing a serious problem for children who are the most vulnerable. To nip the problem in the bud, the state unit of National Tobacco Control Programme had brought it to the notice of chief minister Tarun Gogoi, who appealed to all concerned to stop sale of such products within 100 yards of educational institutes.

According to the recent findings of the global adult tobacco survey (GATS), Assam has about 40 per cent of the overall prevalence of tobacco use. Ream more »

Three stores fail surprise tobacco inspections

Three New Haven establishments failed surprise tobacco inspections last week, according to a Wednesday New Haven Police Department press release.

Under the direction of investigators from the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services’ Tobacco Prevention and Enforcement Program, the New Haven Police Department conducted inspections of 16 establishments that sell tobacco products to ensure their compliance with state law. Lobangclub to remove tobacco products and prices from app

The Health Sciences Authority (HSA) has asked the developers of Lobangclub to remove information on tobacco products and prices from its iPhone app that offers information on deals contributed by shoppers.

In an e-mail to users, Lobangclub founder Shen Guyi said he was contacted by a HSA officer who warned him that it is illegal to advertise tobacco in Singapore. As Lobangclub has up to today to remove all tobacco related material from the app, Shen urged users to stop contributing tobacco related deals.

Amendments made to tobacco ordinance

The Cass County Board held a second reading and approved amendments to the county tobacco ordinance Tuesday. The revised ordinance takes effect Nov. 15.

The board also set a fee schedule for violations of the ordinance, which for the first time will hold employees selling tobacco products to underage people liable as well as the license holder.

Clerks and employees will now be charged $50 per violation if they sell to minors.

Tobacco stocks have proven, as wells as most consumer staples, to be less immune to difficult economic environments. I am assuming the U.S. economy is still in a recession. In my opinion, tobacco stocks provide the appropriate risk and reward balance for dividend investors. Consumer staples, such as tobacco and food, continue to sell worldwide despite economic difficulties.

Two tobacco products free of FDA oversight

How dissolvable tobacco products are made could determine whether or not they fall under the jurisdiction of the Food and Drug Administration.

Star Scientific Inc., a maker of dissolvable tobacco lozenges, announced Wednesday that it received an FDA notice saying that two of its products are not subject to regulations in the federal Food Drug & Cosmetic Act.

Southborough – Teen smoking is a bad thing. We all know it. And Southborough is taking another step to prevent it.
The Southborough Board of Health held a public hearing on a proposed ban on the sale of all tobacco products in Southborough pharmacies Dec. 15. The Board of Health members: Dr. Louis Fazen (Chair), nurses Nancy Sacco and Mary Lou Woodford and Public Health Director Paul Pisinski oversee the office’s daily activities.

FDA must review new, changed tobacco products

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Wednesday issued guidelines to the tobacco industry that could lead to some newer cigarettes, smokeless tobacco and roll-your-own tobacco products being removed from the market and prevent others from being introduced, if the FDA determines their ingredients and design encourage non-users to start using tobacco or make it more difficult for users to quit.
