The state Department of Health issued an order Thursday banning the sale of synthetic marijuana. Bay Village police and the Westshore Enforcement Bureau Narcotics Task Force uncovered a significant marijuana growing operation in the city.
Officers obtained a warrant and searched an Osborn Road house Feb. 28, according to police. They found 135 marijuana plants growing inside. The plants were about 6-feet tall and each had a value of about $1,000, according to police. Ream more »
Since Alex Bradley was mugged in summer 2011, he has been in severe pain from a shoulder injury. After undergoing surgery, the international relations senior was prescribed a variety of pain medications, but he has found the side effects nearly unbearable. Now, Bradley is considering an alternative — a medical marijuana card.
Bradley joined about 60 people last night in the Wilson Hall auditorium to listen to three marijuana law experts debate government laws prohibiting marijuana.

The DanversCares prevention coalition has issued a position statement in response to proposed bills that would legalize marijuana or make it available for medical use.
The statement opposes “any policy or initiative that directly or indirectly promotes marijuana use among youths.”
DanversCares represents school officials, police, businesspeople and residents who meet monthly and seek to educate the public on ways to cut down on teen drug and alcohol use and other risky behaviors.

The city’s medical marijuana ordinance has been in limbo for much of its lifespan, but after Tuesday’s El Centro City Council decision, there may be time frames attached.
An ordinance allowing medical marijuana dispensaries in the city was approved in June. But in October the ordinance was placed “on hold” following a court of appeals decision that struck down a similar ordinance in the city of Long Beach.

Next week, the N.H. House of Representatives will be voting on HB 1526, a bill that would make possession of less than a half ounce of marijuana a violation instead of a misdemeanor. In other words, marijuana possession would be treated like a speeding ticket versus a criminal arrest.

Last week Alcohol and Tobacco Control announced it will suspend liquor and tobacco licenses for businesses caught selling synthetics.
ATC Commissioner Troy Hebert told News 2 he believes hitting businesses where it hurts most may be the break law enforcement across the state needs to shut these sales down.
“Fines are going to be one thing, and even jail time for some of them, but when you take away their bread and butter, which is going to be alcohol and tobacco sales, I think that should send a strong message,” Hebert said. Ream more »
Denver firefighters said they found marijuana plants as they were putting out an early morning house fire Sunday.
Fire crews arrived at around 2:30 a.m. to extinguish a fire in the attic of the home near the intersection of Stuart Street and 5th Avenue.
Most of the fire damage was confined to the attic. Other parts of the home suffered smoke damage.

A big bust of synthetic marijuana at three south side gas stations and the home of a suspected supplier this month is one of Milwaukee’s first court cases against alleged sellers and manufacturers of the designer drug, authorities say.
Federal officials say the fake pot has become prevalent in the Milwaukee area and nationwide over the past few years, but they say they are not aware of any successful prosecution locally yet because the drug is so new.
