Passengers Admitted to Just Smoking Pot

The police report from a June traffic stop where a man claims he was inappropriately touched by an officer says the two passengers admitted to smoking marijuana just prior to the stop.

Brice Wilson, a 23-year-old Villa Rica man, claims officer K. Moore inappropriately touched his genitals as he was being searched. Powder Springs police are continuing their internal affairs investigation into the matter.

Marijuana may help alleviate PTSD symptoms

A recent study published in the journal of Neuropsychopharmacology, found that rats that were given a synthetic compound of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the primary psychoactive component in marijuana, experienced less symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) than rats who were not given any drug treatment after stressors.

This study has important implications in treatment of PTSD which affects at least 7 percent of Americans at one point in their life, and 11 to 20 percent of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans will develop PTSD.

Appellate court voids Long Beach marijuana dispensary law

In a decision that could upend the way California cities regulate medical marijuana, a state Court of Appeal has ruled that Long Beach’s ordinance regulating dispensaries violates federal law.

The city held a lottery, issued permits to the winners and charged fees, which the three-judge panel said put it in the position of authorizing the distribution of marijuana in direct conflict with the federal Controlled Substances Act, which makes the possession and sale of the drug illegal. Marijuana question headed to Palo Alto voters in 2012

Palo Alto voters will face several weighty questions in November 2012. Does President Barack Obama deserve another term? How about the four city council members who will be up for re-election?
Add to that list whether medical marijuana dispensaries should be allowed to set up shop in Palo Alto.
With little discussion, the council decided 7-0 early Tuesday morning to put the issue in front of voters, after a citizens’ initiative to open three cannabis clubs received enough signatures to qualify for the ballot. Ream more »

Large marijuana field discovered in Butler County

Acting on a tip from a landowner, law enforcement officers found about 3,000 marijuana plants in rural Butler County on Tuesday.
The marijuana was found near Northwest 180th and Indianola Road, Butler County Sheriff Kelly Herzet said in a prepared statement.
The operation was “very well hidden in a wooded area,” Herzet said. It is a few miles south of a similar marijuana grow discovered in Marion County on Monday. Ream more »

Man dead after shootout at Amador marijuana cultivation site

One man is dead and five others are under arrest following a Tuesday night shootout at the site of a commercial marijuana growing operation in rural Amador County.
The Amador County Sheriff’s Office received a call at 9:10 p.m. Tuesday from a resident on Carbondale Road who reported hearing several gunshots. At 9:18, a second caller reported hearing 15 to 20 gunshots. One of the callers reported seeing a white full-sized extra cab truck and dark-colored sport utility vehicle leaving the property where the gunshots originated.

Woman Sentenced on Federal Marijuana Distribution Charge

A judge in Huntington has sentence a woman from New Mexico to 30 month in prison on a federal marijuana distribution charge.

Rosa Ledezma, 44, of Las Cruces, N.M., was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court in Huntington.
Prosecutors say Ledezma admitted that from Feb. 17, 2010, until Feb. 19, 2010, she conspired with others to distribute marijuana linked to an on-going trafficking scheme. Ream more »

“There is an increasing level of violence associated with illegal marijuana cultivation”, said Butte County Sheriff Jerry Smith. That statement proved to be true early Tuesday morning after a marijuana raid in Berry Creek ended with gunfire. Butte County Sheriff Deputies raided the garden off of Feather Ridge Way just before 7:00 Tuesday morning, but one of the suspects guarding the marijuana grow opened fire in his attempt to escape. ” The deputy sheriff then returned fire, striking the suspect in the lower extremities”, said Smith.

Brash’s proposal has kicked off a lively debate on MSN NZ, with people commenting this is the first time they have agreed with anything the politician has said.
But his stance has put him offside with some of his party members – Act Epsom seat hopeful John Banks, who is known for his strong views on drugs and alcohol, told the New Zealand Herald yesterday that decriminalising cannabis would never become party policy.
