Another firm exploring buying former Durham cigarette factory

Another developer is exploring buying the former Chesterfield cigarette factory at the corner of Duke and Main streets downtown. Durham officials say there’s pressure to begin the project before the end of the year before an existing approved project site plan expires.

BGL Real Estate Advisors has an exclusive 60-day due diligence period to investigate buying the seven-story former Liggett Group cigarette factory, said Robert Flanigan, vice president for the Cleveland-based investment firm Brown Gibbons Lang & Co.

Government notifies FDI ban in cigarette manufacturing

The government has notified the ban on FDI in cigarette manufacturing, a decision taken by the Union Cabinet on April 8.
“Manufacturing of cigars, cheroots, cigarillos and cigarettes, of tobacco or of tobacco substitutes” have been put under the list of sectors where FDI is prohibited. Read more
