It seems that the antismoking lobby has gone a little overboard with coaxing people to give up smoking, as the government is currently planning to introduce new kits for people who would like to give up smoking. Apparently, starting from the New Year people will be provided free coupons to exchange for Quit Kits that will be used to help in people quitting the habit.
The Quit Kits will include tobacco patches for a trial of one week. The new measure has been implemented to help people pledging to give up smoking as part of their News Year resolutions. The numbers of people, who happen to smoke in the country, are around eight-million and according to health officials it has been estimated that around 50% of people will die of problems related to smoking.
According to the Health Secretary, Andrew Lansley said that the lives of many people could be saved with this new initiative and apart from that, it would also help in saving the country, a lot of its money.
Talking about the logic behind this new initiative, Lansley said that a majority of people tried to quit in January and that the habit ends up costing the government billion of dollars every year. Apart from that, he said that smoking is also very expensive for people as well, as it ends up costing a person smoking a pack everyday around £2000 annually.
