Havana, Cuba, Dec 2.- Cuban machine made cigar Guantanamera will come out with a new image that highlights Cuban cultural traditions looking for greater promotion in the international market.

Mario Arcila Gonzalez, the marketing specialist of the enterprise commercializing the Cuban product, Empresa Internacional Cubana de Tabacos S.A. (ICT), told ACN Guantanamera cigars are made using high technology and that they comply with international standards.

Aim to make e-cigarette filter through to NHS

ENTREPRENEUR Dr David Xiu has his sights set on supplying the NHS with his creation, the electronic cigarette, which he says could save the public body £440m a year, prevent deaths and rapidly increase the size of his business.

Dr Xiu is managing director and founder of Leeds-based Superdragon Group, which, as well as e-cigarettes, supplies acupuncture needles, herbal and healthcare products. The e-cigarette is a battery-powered device that provides inhaled doses of nicotine by way of a vaporised solution.

‘Prohibition of Smoking and Protection of Non-Smoker Health Law’ was passed by the federal cabinet in 2002. Through this law, smoking was prohibited at all public places, including hotels, restaurants and cafes, and restrictions were placed on tobacco advertising as well as on the sale of tobacco to minors. A resolution against smoking shisha in restaurants and public places was also passed by the Sindh Assembly earlier this year.

British American Tobacco bounces back on the USE

British American Tobacco Uganda (BATU) shares are up 18.8 per cent since July as investors bet that the tobacco manufacture will earn more from its exports because of a weak shilling and increased volumes. BATU began processing leaf for export to other parts of Africa in April, which might translate to higher turnover for the Uganda Securities Exchange listed firm.

Middle and high school students from across the state gathered at the Georgia National Fair Grounds Nov. 11-12 to launch a statewide, youth-led campaign to establish 100% tobacco-free schools policies in Georgia’s public schools.

The Healthy Schools Leadership Summit 2011, coordinated by a nonprofit called Youth Empowered Solutions, was held in partnership with the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH).

Tobacco giant BAT challenges Australia legislation

British American Tobacco (BAT) has launched a High Court challenge against a law that will require plain packaging on cigarettes in Australia, claiming it infringes intellectual property rights.
Days after fellow global tobacco giant Philip Morris sued Canberra over the controversial plan, BAT filed a constitutional challenge that it said would act as a “test case” on the validity of the legislation. Ream more »
