Smoking in public places in Laramie County will be allowed to continue for now.
The Cheyenne-Laramie County Board of Health has decided not to pursue a countywide smoking ban in public places. The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reported Monday that board members, who are appointed, aren’t sure they have the authority to enact a ban.
A lawsuit challenging Teton Valley’s smoking ban is pending in court and it’s expected to go all the way to the state Supreme Court.
The ban would have only have covered unincorporated areas of the county. Board members suggested that proponents put the issue on the ballot for voters to decide or ask the Legislature for help.
Last year, a statewide public smoking ban failed in the state Legislature.
