Lake spreads word on risks of candy-flavored tobacco items

Efforts are under way around the state to limit the placement of candy-flavored tobacco products that might entice young people to pick up the smoking habit. On Tuesday, the Safe Climate Coalition of Lake County will get an update on the issue from Melaine Chin, health-education program consultant for the Lake County Health Department’s Tobacco Prevention Program. “We decided to have her come in and do a presentation so that our outside agencies would be aware that this is on the market and it’s creating some issues,” said Debi MacIntyre, coalition executive director. The meeting will be from 9 to 10 a.m. in Room 302 of the Lake Technical Institute of Public Safety, 1565 Lane Park Cutoff, Tavares.
