As a small business owner in Daytona Beach, I do not promote or allow the sale of tobacco products to minors; however, I find the recent article concerning the local government’s efforts to prohibit the sale of flavored cigars very troubling. This appears to be another example of government rules and regulations to legislate individual behavior.
It is part of a disturbing trend to limit freedom of choice, individual liberty, and free enterprise.Currently there are laws prohibiting the sale of tobacco to those under the legal age. Let us locally enforce the laws that currently exist and prosecute those who don’t obey them, rather than penalize me and other individuals by imposing further restrictions in an already restricted economy.
I personally do not smoke, but I refuse to sit idly by while others’ freedoms of choice are under attack.
