reached cigarette tax
A federal appeals panel has upheld the state in its long-running battle to force Yakama tribal smoke shops to collect the $3.03 state cigarette tax from non-Indian buyers.

The U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals on Friday upheld U.S. District Judge Robert H. Whaley, who ruled last year that tribal smoke shops on the 1.2 million-acre Yakama reservation must collect the tax. While representatives for two other leadership hopefuls, Ted Morton and Rick Orman, met with the anti-smoking coalition, neither completed the survey sent to them in July.

Orangutan smoke
Smokers’ rights advocates have one more battle to fight. The war against cigarette consumption has moved from bars, restaurants and any enclosed United States workplace to an open-air animal park in Malaysia. For years, any visitor at the Johor Zoo with the nerve to toss a lit cigarette into the monkey pen has been rewarded by the spectacle of an orangutan named Shirley satisfying her craving for nicotine.

smoking statistics 2011
Smoking Statistics and Tobacco statistics discussed here are those of the whole world, the United States and England. They give the smoking statistics among the adult population, statistics of smoking in teenagers and statistics of deaths caused by smoking.

Though the smoking statistics or the tobacco statistics look quite discouraging to the reader, the fact remains that they compare favorably to the smoking stats of 25 to 30 years ago. This is especially true of the developed countries, where the literacy rate is high. Ream more »
