If you’re almost anywhere but home, too bad. The LA smoking ban proposed over a year ago has now begun.
Smoking on outdoor restaurant patios, or in cafes, food courts, food carts, or within 40 feet of mobile food trucks can now result in $250-$500 fines.
With so few smokers in Brentwood, will the new rule even affect locals?

BMC smokes out hookah bars again

The BMC has clamped down on hookah parlours once again. In the last 15 days, it has prosecuted and fined over 25 suburban hookah parlours. The action was taken after residents in the vicinity of the parlours complained about the popularity of the “noxious habit” among college students.

As such, the assistant commissioners of all the wards have been asked to act against restaurants that serve food and hookah in the same chamber. Ream more »

Conn. considering more oversight of hookah lounges

Some Connecticut lawmakers want tougher regulation of hookah lounges, increasingly popular establishments where customers gather to smoke flavored tobacco or herbs.

The General Assembly’s Public Health Committee heard testimony Wednesday on a bill requiring the state’s Department Public Health to have oversight authority over the operation of hookah lounges. The commissioner would also be required to come up with regulations for the lounges that protect the health of customers and staff. Ream more »

I am always on the lookout for unique wedding and reception ideas. One of my followers on Twitter, Partipig (an event planning company in Atlanta) sets up Hookah tables for wedding guests. I thought this would be a unique idea for someone who wants a Moroccan themed wedding reception or just something different. After seeing the display Partipig did for an event called *Bridalpalooza, I was intrigued to know more about this company and the Hookah setup. An average smoking session will see 10 milligrams of fruit tobacco smoked for 30 minutes.

It is a shared experience where one or more pipes can stem from the shisha pipe.

Students plan to open hookah bar in Kirksville

When freshmen Dan Nixon and Andrew Wu came to Kirksville, they decided something was missing from the college night-life. They decided to start their own hookah bar at 106 S. Elson, which they hope to open by March 18.
Nixon said he and Wu asked many of their friends what they thought Kirksville needed, and they almost unanimously agreed that it needed hookah bars. Nixon said he knows of fraternity members that have hookahs, but don’t have the convenience of a central place to use them. Ream more »

Young Children Blow Their Pocket Money on Hookah

Young children of the age of 12 have been found blowing their pocket money in hookah smoking dens.

The young children are risking their health by using unfiltered shisha tobacco. Shisha cafes serve the customers with flavored tobacco smoke through a water pipe which is known as a hookah.
These cafes must follow the strict health and safety guidelines as well as the smoking legislation, including selling of products to adults only. The illegal counterparts of these venues are spiraling across the country and attracting the youngsters.

As hookah lounges spring up in St. Johns and throughout the Portland area, the flavored tobacco attracts UP students to gather together. However, they may be unaware of the health risks of smoking hookah.

A number of allegations made by Jennifer Schipsi were lies, a Palo Alto hookah lounge owner accused of murdering her testified in court Monday.
On the third day of his testimony, Bulos “Paul” Zumot, the 37-year-old owner of Da Hookah Spot, claimed Schipsi, a 29-year-old old real estate agent he is suspected of strangling and whose body he allegedly set ablaze to hide evidence, was dishonest in some of the text messages she sent him.
