Councillor Glenn De Baeremaeker wants city staff to look at banning hookah bars outright.

De Baeremaeker got the licensing committee on Friday to approve asking staff to take a look at a ban. De Baeremaeker said he also wants staff to explain how the city could regulate establishments that let patrons use water pipes.

Fire breaks out at Leicester shisha bar

Firefighters worked to prevent flames from spreading to a factory in Leicester on Thursday October 25th after a blaze broke out at a shisha bar on the roof of the building.
According to the Leicester Mercury, the incident occurred at the Cloud 9 cafe atop the Curzonia Knitwear factory on Birstall Street in the St Matthew’s area of the city at around 11.15am. Ream more »

Health officials move to snuff hooka smoking at lounge

The Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department has asked a judge to order the operators of a local lounge to stop allowing the smoking of hookah pipes in their establishment.

The department filed paperwork in Pierce County Superior Court earlier this month seeking an injunction against the Night Owl, 5211 South Tacoma Way.

Hookah ‘sampling’ goes up in smoke

A plan to offer hookah smoking at a place called Puff Puff Palace went up in smoke Monday night.

Omar Wazwaz has applied for a tobacco license at 408 South Front St. in the heart of the downtown bar district. That alone wouldn’t be an issue. But Wazwaz also wanted to provide what he called “sampling” of hookah products and devices for his customers.

Customers have been found smoking shisha pipes in a badly ventilated area of an Ealing cafe during a health and safety investigation.

Parkbox Limited, who have the ‘hubbly-bubbly’ pipes at the lounge bar and grill at Mattock Lane, Ealing, pleaded guilty to the offence at Ealing Magistrates Court on Friday 28 September. Ream more »

Neighbors concerned about hookah lounge move

The hookah lounge that caused a stir in the Buell Building when other tenants complained about the sweet-smelling smoke is moving.

Anthony Conklin said Sahara Nights will move to 729 Main St. by Nov. 1. Until then, Sahara Nights will remain in the basement of the Buell Building, where it has done business since it opened last spring.
