synthetic marijuana ban
Warren County Fiscal Court took the first step Friday toward banning synthetic marijuana within the county.
In a unanimous vote, Fiscal Court passed the first reading of an ordinance that would ban several types of synthetic cannabinoids or synthetic marijuana. It also has been referred to as 7H.
As was the case with the Bowling Green Board of Commissioners last week, the magistrates heard from Amy Stillwell, whose daughter Ashley Stillwell was hospitalized for several hours after smoking 7H in August.
Ashley Stillwell shared some of her experiences with the court, and encouraged the magistrates to pass the ordinance. She said she was told by friends that the high would last only an hour. Ream more »

The impact of potential legalization of marijuana

marijuana sales annually
I recently attended Pacific Coast Banking School. As part of the program, participants were required to write a management paper. We were able to choose our own topic but it had to relate to either the banking industry or our individual bank. I chose the topic of marijuana legalization and what the potential economic impact to Humboldt County could be if this happens. This is a question that is increasingly being asked by local businesses and residents. The probability of legalization has continued to increase, which is anticipated to lead to mass production of the plant. Ream more »

ingesting marijuana
With California’s $1.5 billion medical marijuana industry under siege since a federal crackdown began earlier this year, some in the business feel that a pinch of good publicity might chill out the feds.

Might even make those who use, sell and grow medical cannabis appear more human to the folks who live in the 34 states where such medicine isn’t legal.

consider marijuana use
A county resident’s plan to open a medical marijuana collective near Nipomo was brought to a halt after the building owners — including former local lawmaker and Lt. Gov. Abel Maldonado — indicated they had never agreed to lease or sell the property for that use. In October, David Rosenthal submitted an application to the San Luis Obispo County Planning and Building Department for a permit to open a collective at 115 Cuyama Lane that would also include some holistic health services and classes. Marijuna isn’t approved as medicine

Marijuna as medicine
Edwin Stickney’s guest opinion is ill-informed on both the law and the scientific facts regarding so-called “medical” marijuana. Stickney accuses the president of “reneging” on his pledge to support marijuana — but in reality the so-called “Ogden” memo was never the green light marijuana legalization advocates hoped for from the administration. The memo specifically acknowledges that federal law renders marijuana — for any use — illegal, Ream more »

marijuana cards
The debate over medical marijuana is raging across the country right now and, in many ways, Washington is the epicenter, as there’s confusion between state and federal law when it comes to medical marijuana.
Medical marijuana is legal in Washington, but try telling that to the multiple patients busted in their homes for growing pot.
KXLY’s interest in the medical marijuana debate began in early October, when a group of hysterical medical marijuana patients called our newsroom as their own grow and their neighbor’s grow was raided by local police. Ream more »
