Thousands of tobacco farmers in Jember, East Java, are threatening to stage a massive rally at cigarette warehouses and factories. They will be protesting against the falling tobacco prices.

“We are fed up with the performance of the local government and the Tobacco Commission as well as the attitude of the cigarette warehouse and factory owners who do not care about the farmers,” said a tobacco farmer, Jumantoro, Tuesday, 28 August 2012.

According to a recent study, the enduring belief that women are less successful than men in quitting smoking is questionable. The study, finds little difference in cessation between sexes across all age groups.

The 27-year-old says he admitted to carrying some marijuana, at which point the cop reached inside his pocket and pulled out a ziploc bag containing weed.

Tobacco sales bring in US$500 million

SOME US$500 million worth of tobacco was sold in the 2011-2012 marketing season, the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB) said Monday.

Statistics released by TIMB showed that the country earned US$525 million for 144 million kgs of tobacco during the season, a 46 percent increase from last year’s US$360 million. Ream more »

There are a lot of buts in the way of making the Greer city-owned parks and recreation facilities tobacco-free.
Councilwoman Judy Albert (District 6) took the opportunity to revisit a hot button topic at city council tonight, asking for a blanket tobacco-free ordinance making it unlawful for any person to smoke or otherwise use tobacco products in/on any cit-owned or city-leased recreation facility or park.
